Volvo debuts the 1.6 engine GTDi

From next autumn the Volvo will start marketing the new 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine 1595 cm3 GTDi called and offered in versions from 150 hp (T3) and 180 hp (T4). This new unit provides both configurations 240 Nm of torque, although the presence of overboost enables the T4 to earn 30 Nm "on demand" availability of a Newton constant between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm. The 1.6 GTDi is made entirely from aluminum and has variable valve timing VVT (Variable Valve Timing), while direct injection is performed at a pressure of 100 bar.

The first cars to use with the 1.6 GTDi will be the S60 and V60 , offered in the T3 and T4. The less powerful will coupled with six-speed manual transmission
only, while the 180 hp will be equipped as standard with manual transmission and optional with the six powershift clutches. Both offer the "DRIVE", controlled with a button that operates the Stop & Start (only for manual) and the device (only automatic) for putting in neutral with the gas pedal the car at rest and in motion. In the coming months the 1.6 GTDi will be made compatible for E85.
